Dexter Ward

Dexter Ward was born and raised in Atlanta and is a first-generation college graduate. Raised by his mother alongside his two sisters, he grew up with a deep appreciation for sacrifice, resilience, and the responsibility that comes with creating opportunities that did not previously exist.

Dexter began his career in banking at Synovus before moving into investment banking at North Point Mergers & Acquisitions, where he advised business owners and management teams on strategic transactions. He later joined Garnett Station Partners, a New York-based private investment firm, to move from advising businesses from the outside to learning how to partner with founders, build companies, and support their growth from the ownership side.

At Garnett Station, Dexter worked closely with founders, executives, and investors while helping form partnerships and build multi-company service platforms. The experience gave him a firsthand view into what happens after a partnership begins, including integrating businesses, strengthening teams and systems, investing behind organic growth, and supporting founders through periods of significant change. More than anything, it reinforced his belief that the strongest businesses are built around great people, trusted relationships, and cultures that should be strengthened rather than replaced.

The decision to become an entrepreneur was also deeply personal. In 2020, at the age of 25, Dexter suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and underwent open-heart surgery. The experience fundamentally changed how he thought about time, purpose, and risk. After recovering, he made a commitment to himself that if he had been given another opportunity at life, he would eventually have the courage to pursue the work he felt called to do rather than simply follow the safest available path.

Years later, that commitment led Dexter to leave Garnett Station and establish Frontier Gate Partners, choosing ownership, personal responsibility, and the opportunity to build something enduring.

Through Frontier Gate, Dexter is seeking to partner with and lead an exceptional founder-owned essential service business in the Southeast. He approaches that partnership with a long-term ownership mindset and a deep respect for entrepreneurs who have spent years building businesses that support their families, employees, customers, and communities. He believes the next chapter of a great company should build upon what made it special in the first place while creating new opportunities for its people and investing thoughtfully behind its continued growth.

For Dexter, entrepreneurship is ultimately about stewardship. It is the opportunity to build an enduring institution, create meaningful opportunities for employees, strengthen the communities in which the business operates, and open doors for others in the same way mentors and leaders have opened doors for him throughout his own journey.

Outside of work, Dexter is passionate about mentorship, travel, and fitness, and particularly enjoys helping young people gain exposure to careers and opportunities they may not otherwise encounter. Atlanta remains home, and the values that shaped his journey, including faith, resilience, service, and a willingness to bet on what is possible, continue to shape the way he is building Frontier Gate.
